I have to congratulate the Dept of Health for putting forward a new plan to close certain streets in built up areas so that children can play outside. The idea is not new of course – we all did that in the 1960s (and before that and indeed after that!) – but due to societal changes; more cars, tower blocks etc., the play area for children shrank over the years in direct correlation with the rise in parental concern about “stranger danger”.
Anne Milton, the Junior Health Minister, reported that the scheme has been successfully implemented in Colombia which gave her the impetus to consider its use in the UK.

?I hope so much that this plan does come to fruition rather than left to sit on the “what a good idea” table.
