Great impact – positive approach, challenging my approach – new ideas and new tools! The idea of looking at the day after the problem rather than the day of the problem was most useful.

Evaluations from Dealing with Confrontation Course in response to the question “the tools took away from the training”:
Confidence in working with young people and I think that I will be able to resolve conflict a lot better now than before the training.I thought the training was excellent and relevant – Louise Leeson
How to defuse a situation that could become a problem for both the student and myself. The training was superb and made me look at a modern view of how to deal with confrontation. – Christine Rowntree
“Knowing that just changing words can diffuse situations with a little bit of thought and practice it could help prevent conflict starting” – Christine Beaumont
Very useful course. Eileen dealt with the ojectives using lots of every day examples which made the training interesting and easy to understand. I will definitely be using all of the tools that she discussed in order to avoid controntation. I totally agree that her Approach is the way forward. – Faye Ann McDermott
Very interesting and informative. Have used this already on a group of students in a hostile situation and it worked well. – Doreen Foster
Using body language to include the other person; assumption of co-operation instead of resistance. Excellent course – Joan Storer
To weigh up the situation. Use bdoy language so that those involved do not feel threatened. By changing words we use. – P Hayes
Interesting, entertaining and informative. I would certainly recommend this course to others. – David Corbett

Evaluations following in-house course:
My sincerest thanks for arranging a truly valuable, interesting and informative training course. I feel able to say without reservation that the course was without exception the most easily digestable and practically usable courses I have had the good fortune to attend in any profession past or present. If it is the case that evidence is required for the usability of the methods outlined then I can provide that having already implemented some of the techniques demonstrated. If there are any updates or further related courses I would gladly attend. Thank you again – Paul
I wanted to advise that the training I took part in on 5th and 6th of January 2004 was really inspiring. The solution focused approach could be used across many different situations and areas of work. I would certainly recommend that the trainer as she was able to captivate and motivate the entire team
for the whole two days( quite a feat !)
I hope we are able to use this trainer again. – Michelle
Exceptionally well delivered, the two days were interesting and informative. I find I have retained much more than I would normally.
I have already planned a number of sessions with young people referred to our Project because of concerns about their anger. With a colleague from CAMHS, I am also about to develop a programme of Solution Focused sessions with students who have been involved in bullying.
Can’t wait to practice my learning. – Lynn
Missan, just a short note to say how much I enjoyed the above. In my role as a
police officer, my usual experience tells me that when someone approaches me
with a problem it is an automatic response to try to find a solution and advise the client accordingly. What I gained from the two days was a totally
new way of looking at problem solving. It is clear that the majority of problems of this nature can actually be solved by the person themselves when
armed with the confidence to talk aloud their concerns, assisted by a little skillful questioning. I am sure that I will use this line of approach in the
future as my experience within the social work type environment grows. (don’t forget I am used to being called to situations where I am the focus of
everyone’s attention to IMMEDIATELY solve the problems “the police are here now it will be ok! They will solve this problem”. My realisation is that this is not and cannot always be the case in this line of work. Now I find myself in a new role with new problems to solve in a totally new direction I find that Eileen offered me a much valued tool for my use in my role as Young persons officer for the police. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Eileen in her skillful and entertaining delivery of the material she has. I am an expert at going on courses and have vast experience of struggling to maintain an interest when a dull speaker is standing talking at a class of people . I found that Eileen kept my attention at all times and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole two days. – Sam.
Manager for Coventry Youth Offending Team
This course has given me a new approach to use in my work which is much more positive and client focused. It has provided me with new tools which will be really useful, e.g. the Scaling Question and The Change Balloon. A fantastic course – Eileen is so motivating, passionate and inspirational – made the course totally engaging. Thank you!

Senior Supported Housing Officer for English Churches Housing Group in Oxford
Thank you for the above course, it was like a breath of fresh air and I just had to send this email to express this. The lively and enthusiastic approach to the giving of the information not only helped me to take every little detail on board but was presented in such a way that it gave me confidence to “try the new idea out”. Sometimes when you have been in this work as long as I have you struggle to almost believe there is potential for change, however after these two days I have been revitalised and all my beliefs have returned and I feel ready to help and support the families to identify the change and help move them on.

Though I used the Solution Focused approach within my work to some extent already, the training has given me some specific tools to work with. Also the inspiration to develop the approach and apply it more consistently.

The young people I work with can now choose a “silent interview” – this will improve engagement. I look forward to using this new approach. My mind did not wander once, I was enthralled.
