It has made me think about how I work with parents and I have gained new ways of working with parents. I found the training to be very interesting and useful and found the day very well presented and enjoyable.

The content was very relevant to our project in which we are introducing parenting skills with a non-judgemental approach to parents in schools in Barking and Dagenham. We have spent a year delivering ‘user friendly’ workshops to a wide variety of parents and have worked more recently on adapting existing parenting courses to be less paper based for our use.Just prior to the training day we had become increasingly frustrated as we tried to offer something real and relevant and which brought about change, rather than just giving information and ‘parenting at’ people.(Our whole ethos as one of a group of community projects is to see cycles broken and a change of mindset in those that we reach out to.)

The impact of the training? – the revision and increased knowledge and understanding of Solution Focused practice, increased awareness of focusing on the positive in people and how resourceful they often are – versus – pathologising! I intend to introduce, more than I do, the positive focus in the process of change.
